Gobles is a city in Van Buren County of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 829. It was originally called Gobleville, after its founders, the Goble family. ==History== 1n 1864-1865, John Goble built a hotel at this location. In 1870 it was platted as Gobleville by Hiram E. Goble. Hiram Goble also became the first postmaster on April 16, 1872. Gobleville was platted as a village in 1893. The current name of Gobles was adopted on April 10, 1922. Gobles was incorporated as a city in 1957.〔Romig, Walter. ''Michigan Place Names''. Wayne State University Press (1986), p. 227.〕 In 2012, a fire raged throughout the town, causing damage to economic highlights like Jan's trailside cafe, Jan's Oasis, and CCC Bait and Tackle (Kalamazoo News 4-6-12) In the early 1950s, movies were shown every Saturday night in the Gobles' Town Park. Many of the movies were science-fiction and were popular with children. On Sundays, after attending church, the town residents and the vacationers from nearby Mill Lake, went to Spades' Drug Store and had a soda at the soda fountain. This treat was the highlight of the week for many children.
